In a post-apocalyptic world scorched by catastrophe, a small settlement clings to survival and human sacrifices to appease the Sun Gods. When hunter Ethan and his sister, Ebba, stumble upon a long-forgotten cryochamber in the wastelands, they awaken Sky, a mysterious woman with fragmented memories of a lost civilization. Believing Sky to be the prophesied savior, the villagers place their faith in her. But when Ebba is accidentally sealed inside the cryochamber, Ethan and Sky embark on a perilous journey to the fabled Ark, a facility that may hold the key to her rescue – and the truth about the past.

«Sanctuary is a dystopian sci-fi adventure set in a strange and mysterious primitive future—a time suspended between the old world and whatever comes next.
Sometime during the 23rd century, what remains of advanced civilization has been forgotten and deified. The people believe their gods are the last survivors of the old world, protected by an ancient Prophecy promising their return to power.
This fragile order is disrupted when a rebellious young hunter discovers a woman preserved in cryogenic suspension. She claims something impossible: their gods are not gods at all, but people.
Together, they journey toward what is believed to be the last stronghold of advanced civilization, uncovering the events that brought the modern world to its knees—and the truth about what has survived.
At its core, Sanctuary is a story about collapse and rebirth, about history becoming mythology, and about the recurring cycles through which civilizations rise, collapse and reinvent themselves. Through science fiction, I wanted to explore our own relationship with technology, power and the fragile systems we take for granted.
My ambition was to make a fresh, bold and entertaining science fiction film, rooted in the cinema that brought the genre into the mainstream, but made from a distinctly Eastern European perspective.
Making a film of this scale in a small Eastern European country has been an enormous challenge. I am incredibly proud of what our local team has achieved together with our international collaborators, and especially honored that Sanctuary is being screened at the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. »
