“Through dangers untold, and hardships unnumbered, I have fought my way here to the castle beyond the Goblin City,” says resourceful teenage heroine Sarah (Jennifer Connelly) to the King of the Goblins, Jareth (David Bowie, at his most 1980s-fabulous with massive wigs, tons of eyeliner and MTV-era fashions). Director Jim Henson’s much-loved fantasy-adventure follows Sarah as she winds her way through the enchanted, MC Escher-like Labyrinth in search of her missing half-brother, encountering an astonishing gallery of Jim Henson puppet creations along the way: the massive Ludo, the wisecracking Worm, Sir Didymus and whatever those weird red feathery things are in Chilly Down! Produced by George Lucas and written by Monty Python member Terry Jones, it features some of Bowie’s best-loved kid-friendly songs including Underground and Magic Dance.
