A Douglas Trumbull il Premio Urania d’Argento alla carriera 2018

Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, in programma dal 30 ottobre al 4 novembre, assegna per la sua 18° edizione il Premio Urania d’Argento alla carriera al regista, produttore e creatore di effetti speciali Douglas Trumbull, vincitore di due Premi Oscar© e celebre per il suo contributo visivo a “2001: Odissea nello spazio”, di cui quest’anno ricorre il cinquantenario, e a molti capolavori della fantascienza tra cui “Blade Runner” e “Incontri ravvicinati del terzo tipo”. Douglas Trumbull presenzierà alla manifestazione triestina e ritirerà il premio durante la cerimonia ufficiale al Politeama Rossetti. Per l’occasione, il Festival triestino proietterà in versione restaurata “2001: Odissea nello spazio” e “Silent Running”, del quale Trumbull è anche regista.

Douglas Trumbull è considerato uno dei professionisti più importanti della moderna fantascienza cinematografica. Nato a Los Angeles, è noto soprattutto come artista degli effetti speciali, ma ha al suo attivo una significativa e prolifica carriera come regista, sceneggiatore e produttore.

Trieste Science+Fiction Festival rende omaggio a uno dei curatori degli effetti speciali di “2001: Odissea nello spazio”, unica categoria per la quale il capolavoro di Kubrick vinse l’Oscar. Trumbull è stato supervisore agli effetti speciali fotografici di alcuni dei maggiori film di fantascienza degli anni Settanta e Ottanta, tra cui “Andromeda”, “Incontri ravvicinati del terzo tipo”, “Star Trek”, “Blade Runner”. Celebre è anche il suo contributo ai recenti film di Terrence Malick “The Tree of Life” e “Voyage of Time”. Molte delle tecniche sperimentate in Odissea nello spazio si ritrovano nel suo primo film da regista, il grande cult “Silent Running” del 1972, noto in Italia come “2002: la seconda Odissea”.

TS+FF assign the Silver Urania Award 2018 to the Carrier to Douglas Trumbull

Trieste Science+Fiction Festival, programmed from the 30th of October to the 4th of
November, for its 18th edition assigns the Silver Urania Award to the carrier to the director, producer and special effects creator Douglas Trumbull, winner of two Oscar© Awards and famous for his visual contribution to 2001: A Space Odyssey, this year celebrating its fiftieth birthday, and also known for several other science fiction masterpieces such as Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Type. Douglas Trumbull will attend the event in Trieste and will receive the award during the official ceremony held at the Politeama Rossetti. For the occasion, the Festival will project in its restored version “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Silent Running”, of which Trumbull is director as well.

Douglas Trumbull is considered one of the most relevant professionals of modern cinematographic science fiction. Born in Los Angeles, he is mostly famous as special effects artist, although he can claim a significant and prolific carrier as director, screenwriter and producer.

Trieste Science+Fiction Festival pays tribute to one of the special effects supervisors of “2001:
A Space Odyssey”, the only category for which Kubrick’s masterpiece won the Oscar. Trumbull has been special photographic effects supervisor of some of the major science fiction films of the 70s and 80s, such as “The Andromeda Strain”, “Close Encounters of the Third Type”, “Star Trek”, “Blade Runner”. He is also famous for his contribution to the recent films by Terrence Malick “The Tree of Life” and “Voyage of Time”. Many of the techniques tested in A Space Odyssey can be traced in his first film as director, the great cult “Silent Running” (1972), known in Italy as “2002: the second Odyssey”.

The Silver Urania Award has been assigned since 2002 to the great masters who have worked in the field of the fantastic genre, in collaboration with the namesake literary Mondadori headline. The personalities who have received the award to the carrier of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival are: Pupi Avati, Dario Argento, Jimmy Sangster, Lamberto Bava, Terry Gilliam, Enki Bilal, Joe Dante, Ray Harryhausen, Christopher Lee, Roger Corman, George Romero, Alfredo Castelli, Gabriele Salvatores, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Bruce Sterling, Rutger Hauer and Sergio Martino.

This year, the official selection of the Trieste Science+Fiction appears once again as a cant’miss event for all cinephiles and science fiction lovers, with several Italian and international previews in the mark of the best science fiction, fantasy and horror production, coming from all parts of planet Earth.[:]
