While finishing extensive post-production on his new Hammer Horror movie Ithaqua, director Casey Walker (producer of The Void and In a Violent Nature) helmed this intriguing miniature gem. Home Bodies is a Christmas  movie unlike any you’ve seen before as it follows the daily routine of two children, Red and Blue, who are being raised in isolation by an automated house. Instructed by the enigmatic voice of Papa, one Noel they find an unexpected Christmas present by the tree, a stranger named Pal. And Pal’s arrival signifies a new household dynamic as they begin to question their universal existence.

«The characters Red and Blue represent all of us at a critical time in our lives. Their journey is familiar, but the contained, surreal setting provides a novel environment for the unknown terror of adolescence to unfold. Home Bodies molds the themes of loss of innocence and self realization into a disturbing little gem of a genre film. In a world rife with petty, fear-based hatred for one another’s differences, this dark coming-of-age tale carries a timely message about the urgency of acceptance. Red’s kindness, curiosity and empathy ensures her survival, while Blue’s fear, insecurity and selfishness lead to annihilation. Growing up can be a terrifying experience, but also one full of wonder. The choices we make can reveal the magic of existence, but if you lock yourself away from the world, you’ll never know the beauty that awaits you.
Home Bodies is a sci-fi thriller crafted to entertain co-viewing audiences. After a decade developing cult horror and sci-fi for adults, I’m integrating the expertise gained during the first ten years of my career, spent creating award-winning content for youth. We embraced handcrafted techniques throughout the production. Prosthetic builds, in-camera effects, custom-built puppets, props and costumes, and, for the film’s ambitious finale, a meticulously constructed miniature set all contribute to a tactile visual language. The result is a visceral, poignant and often terrifying ride which will resonate with young and old alike.»
