“The Day of the Daleks” è stato definito un classico minore della serie. Si assiste al primo incontro tra Pertwee e i Dalek e vede nuovamente questi ultimi invadere la Terra. La storia è di Louis Mark, con un riferimento al “Demon with a Glass Hand” di Harlan Ellison. Alcuni soldati della Terra, che nel futuro è sotto dominio dei Dalek, tornano indietro nel tempo per assassinare l’uomo ritenuto responsabile di aver messo in moto la catena di eventi che ha portato all’invasione aliena. La trama suddivisa in quattro episodi riesce a catturare l’attenzione, e gli Orgon, una razza aliena al servizio dei Dalek, rappresentano un’innovazione riuscita.

Pertwee’s first encounter with the Daleks, in what has been termed a ‘minor classic’, again saw them successfully conquering the Earth. From a story by Louis Marks (with a nod to Harlan Ellison’s Demon with a Glass Hand), soldiers from a future Earth controlled by Daleks travel back in time to present-day Britain to assassinate the man they hold responsible for setting in motion the series of disastrous events that ultimately led to the Dalek invasion. Although the Daleks themselves are arguably underused in this four-part story, the narrative is strong enough in itself to hold the attention, and the Ogrons, an alien race who serve the Daleks, are a commendable innovation.
