ABEL FERRARA — PREMIO ASTEROIDE ALLA CARRIERA 2021
Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1951, Abel Ferrara directed his first Super 8 as a boy and soon collaborated with screenwriters Nicholas St. John and John McIntyre. In the late 1970s, he began directing his first films, The Driller Killer (1979) and The Angel of Vengeance (1981). In the 90s with the neo-noir King of New York (1990) came the great international hits. The bad lieutenant , with Harvey Keitel, presented at the Cannes Film Festival in 1992 in Un Certain Regard; Body Snatchers – The Invasion Continues (adaptation of Jack Finney’s science fiction novel of the same name); The Addiction , with Christopher Walken; Fratelli , with Benicio Del Toro, Christopher Walken and Isabella Rossellini, he won two prizes at the Venice Film Festival in 1996; New Rose Hotel , with Asia Argento; Mary , with Juliette Binoche, Forest Whitaker and Heather Graham, won four awards in Venice in 2005; Go Go Tales , a sort of sequel to King of New York ; 4:44 The last day on Earth (2012), presented in Venice; Alive in France (2017), presented in Cannes at the Quinzaine; Pasolini (2014); Tommaso (2019); Siberia , screened at the latest Berlinale; Zeroes and Ones , award for best direction at the Locarno Film Festival.
