II ricco ed eccentrico signor Loren offre un premio di 10.000 dollari a chi riesce a passare la notte in una sua casa che si dice abitata da fantasmi. Accettano la scommessa quattro persone: il pilota d’aereo Schroeder, che ha bisogno di denaro, la giornalista Ruth Bridges, sempre a caccia di notizie forti, lo psicologo dott. Trent, interessato professionalmente al caso e la giovane Nora, che pure aspira al premio. Gli ospiti, ognuno dei quali ha avuto in donazione una pistola, dovranno guadagnarsi il denaro sottoponendosi a paurose apparizioni. In effetti a mezzanotte queste cominciano: la moglie di Loren, Annabelle, viene trovata impiccata e si scopre anche una grande vasca piena di inquietante acido corrosivo. In realta I’uomo ha architettato la strana scommessa per procurarsi un alibi poiché sta progettando di uccidere sua moglie. Ma questa a sua volta vorrebbe eliminare il suo insopportabile marito…

The rich and eccentric Mr Loren offers a prize of $10 000 to anyone who can spend the night in a supposedly haunted house that he owns. Four people accept the challenge: the pilot Schroeder who is need of cash, the journalist Ruth Bridges who is always looking for a good story, the psychologist Doctor Trent who is interested professionally and also the young Nora who also wants to win the money prize. Each armed with a pistol, tonight’s guests will have to earn the money by surviving the terrifying apparitions that await. At midnight Loren’s wife is found to have a hung herself in the house and soon after they find a large bowl of acid.
