New dates for Trieste Science+Fiction 2013!

The 13th edition of Trieste Science+Fiction will be from October 30th to November 3rd: the science fiction festival is organised, as usual, by film center La Cappella Underground and takes place in Trieste, Italy. The dates have been announced by the organisers in Cannes, in occasion of the annual meeting of the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation, network specialised in promoting science fiction cinema in Europe.
After last year’s success, Sala Tripcovich will be Trieste Science+Fiction’s main venue for the second time, thanks to the collaboration of the Municipality of Trieste and Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi. The neighbouring Casa del Cinema, where all of Trieste main film associations have their offices, will host the festival’s headquarters as weel as the other sections of the event, in collaboration with Teatro Miela. Besides, in the newly restored Magazzino delle Idee, in collaboration with the Province of Trieste, there will be an exhibition featuring illustrations and images to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the “International Science Fiction Film Festival”: its first edition took place in Trieste in 1963 and in a 20-years span it was honoured by guests such as Forrest J. Ackerman, Arthur C. Clarke, Roger Corman, Umberto Eco, Riccardo Freda, Frederik Pohl.
Trieste Science + Fiction, the new science fiction festival, started in 2000 and explores the worlds of the fantasy and science fiction genres, paying particular attention to the experimental languages and new technologies of cinema, television, visual arts and entertainment. The 2013 edition will see, as usual, the cinema at the centre of its programme, with national and international premieres showcasing the best productions in science fiction, fantasy and horror. The festival’s official selection will feature two international competitions: independent filmmakers from all over the world will compete for the Asteroide Award, going to the best science fiction feature film. The European competition for the Méliès d’Argent going to the the best fantastic feature and short film is organised in collaboration with the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation. The festival will also feature unmissable meetings, the Nocturno Award for new filmmakers, the Urania Life Achievement Award to a great artist in the fantastic genre, masterclasses organised with the University of Trieste and special events devoted to comics and literature.
