SCIENCE DOC DAY

After the encouraging outcome of the first edition in 2020, the Fantastic Film Forum schedules once again the Science Doc Day – the one-day programme of events dedicated to science documentary, the second soul of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival. Organised once again in partnership with EURASF – European Academy of Science Film, the event will feature an agenda of talks and panels, boosted by a session of one-to-one virtual meetings with a selected pool of decision-makers.

Science documentaries to make a difference: the WaterBear Network

WaterBear was launched in December 2020 with a specific goal: contributing to the future of our planet. Supported by over 100 charity partners, WaterBear urges its audience to actively support the cause: thanks to its interactive technology, viewers are allowed to donate, volunteer, sign petitions, share and engage. In addition to a considerable library of documentaries, shorts and diverse media, WaterBear is also producing a growing selection of original content. An overview of WaterBear’s peculiarities and production policy by its Head of Production, Andrea Walji.

Science + Documentary: relationships between scientific community and the science film industry

Can scientists contribute to the documentary film industry? In which ways? By examining a set of specific cases (matchmakings for scientists and media professionals, documentary festivals taking place at CERN, documentaries for the scientific circuit), this panel aims at exploring the potential of interactions between the scientific community and the science film industry.

The art of scientific inquiry: Sandbox Films and Sandbox Fund

Sandbox Films is a documentary studio that invests in feature-length creative documentaries focusing on the link between science and culture: a non-conventional, nonprofit company, that aims at illuminating the art and beauty of scientific inquiry. Sandbox Films also supports a grant administered by Sundance Institute called the Sandbox Fund, offering unrestricted grants to independent artists seeking to explore the intersection of science and nonfiction storytelling. A compelling opportunity for authors from all over the world, presented by its Head of Production and Development.
