Trieste Science+Fiction Festival celebrates its 25th edition by hosting Ted Chiang, one of the greatest contemporary masters of science fiction.
An award-winning American writer, Ted Chiang is the author of the novella “Story of Your Life”, which was adapted into Denis Villeneuve’s cult film Arrival, and is considered one of the most influential voices in science fiction worldwide. His works have received prestigious awards, including four Nebula Awards, four Hugo Awards, six Locus Awards, and the PEN/Malamud Award. His collection “Exhalation” was named one of the ten best books of the year by the New York Times and made Barack Obama’s reading list, while in 2023 Time Magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the field of artificial intelligence.
During Trieste Science+Fiction Festival 2025, he will be the protagonist of several events. On October 30 at 7:00 p.m., he will hold a dialogue called “Futuri artificiali” (Artificial Futures) on artificial intelligence with journalist Matteo Bordone as part of Mondofuturo, the festival’s historic series of meetings between science and science fiction to imagine the world of tomorrow. On Saturday, November 1, at 5:00 p.m., he will address the topic of language with linguist Vera Gheno in the meeting “Wor(l)dbuilding – creare universi con le parole” (Wor(l)dbuilding – creating universes with words). Both events will take place in Piazza della Borsa at the spectacular Sci-Fi Dome, a specially designed structure that will once again host the festival’s extra events this year. The last meeting with Ted Chiang will take place on Sunday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m. at the Politeama Rossetti, where the writer will introduce the screening of Denis Villeneuve’s Arrival with journalist Emilio Cozzi.
Ted Chiang will also be the protagonist on October 25 and 26 of the fourteenth edition of Libri in Nizza, a festival of books and ideas in Nizza Monferrato, in the wine-growing hills that are part of the UNESCO site of Langhe-Roero and Monferrato.
