American director, actor, screenwriter. He made his debut in the world of cinema at an amateur level in Super 8 and soon went on to direct his first feature films, The Driller Killer (1979) and The Angel of Vengeance (Ms. 45, 1981), which already denote an authorial poetics clearly focused on the themes of Guilt and Redemption. In the nineties he made his most famous films: The Bad Lieutenant (1992) with Harvey Keitel, The Addiction (1995) with Lili Taylor, Brothers (The Funeral, 1996) with Christopher Walken. In 2007 the controversial Go Go Tales (2007) with Asia Argento. In 2014 he signed the biopic Pasolini with Willem Dafoe
