Il professor Hauser, eminente scienziato tedesco che ha lavorato per i sovietici, sta morendo e con la sua morte rischiano di perdersi i segreti di tanti geniali studi e di rivoluzionarie scoperte. I laboratori inglesi attuano, allora, un rischioso esperimento – mai tentato prima – di trapianto della memoria. Dopo aver convinto il dottor Mondoro a fare da cavia, gli iniettano un siero estratto dalle cellule cerebrali morenti. L’operazione sembra avere successo, ma presto sorgono dei problemi: Mondoro, dominato da una doppia personalità combatte contro la parte di Hauser che gli ha invaso la mente e si adopera per vincere un passato che vorrebbe sopravvivere. Hauser, ex nazista, rappresenta per lui, di origini ebraiche, il fantasma da esorcizzare; gli ultimi irriducibili del Terzo Reich i nemici da abbattere.
Professor Hauser, an eminent German scientist who worked for the Soviets, is dying and with his death there is the risk of losing the secrets of many brilliant studies and revolutionary discoveries. English laboratories are carrying out a risky memory transplant experiment that has never been tried before. After having convinced Doctor Mondoro to be a guinea pig, they inject him with a serum extracted from dying brain cells. The operation seems to be a success, but some problems soon appear: Mondoro, overwhelmed by a dual-personality, fights against the part of Hauser that has invaded his mind and strives to settle some old scores. Hauser, an ex-Nazi, represents a ghost that must be exorcised for Mondoro as he has Jewish origins; the last diehards of the Third Reich are enemies he must defeat.
