Following the hugely successful 2024 edition of Italcon, the Italian Convention of Fantasy and Science Fiction, and given the incredible interest shown by the public in the literary events organized, the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival has decided to immediately submit a bid to host the convention once again: Italcon will return to Trieste for the 2027 edition of the TS+FF.
But the news regarding the literary program doesn’t end there: in 2025 as well, the festival will feature numerous events focused on in-depth discussions, meet-and-greets, and presentations dedicated to fantasy fiction.
In fact, Book Invaders is returning—a series of science fiction-themed events organized by TS+FF in collaboration with the local writers’ collective FantaTrieste, featuring national and international guests. The events will be accompanied by lectures on topics of interest to fantasy literature and presentations of books and comics related to the genre.
As previously announced, the program also includes the second edition of the Mondofuturo Literary Award, which this year will once again honor the best original science fiction book published in Italy in 2024. The award is the result of a collaboration between the world of science and technological innovation, Area Science Park, and the world of audiovisual production, La Cappella Underground, with the goal of exploring new ways to foster cultural growth and interest in science and literature, using science fiction as a vehicle to capture the public’s attention.
And the contest for unpublished science fiction short stories, Infiniti Futuri, aimed at middle and high school students in Trieste, will also be back for its second edition.
This year’s theme will be “Love in the Age of AI,” and the jury will consist of members of the local writers’ collective “FantaTrieste.”
