L’affermato poeta Usher ospita nella propria casa uno scrittore intenzionato ad avvicinarsi alla sua arte. Usher e sua sorella vivono come reclusi in quest’abitazione decadente. Il fratello si preoccupa eccessivamente per la malattia della sorella. Quando questa muore, diventa chiara la ragione per cui Usher fosse tanto in apprensione. La donna, infatti, esce dalla tomba lo chiama a sé. I due, si viene a sapere, condividono la stessa anima. L’ospite, sconvolto, abbandona la vecchia casa.

Usher, a well respected poet, welcomes a young writer into his home to teach him some of what he knows. The poet lives as recluse in his stately home, along with his ill sister whom he spends all of his time caring for. When she dies, it becomes clear the reason why Usher was so concerned. The woman rises from her grave and calls for him, and we learn that the two share the same soul. The young writer, crazy with fear, quickly leaves the old house.
