I figli di Frank, un acrobatico ladro in pensione, sono preoccupati del fatto che il padre non può più vivere da solo e vorrebbero metterlo in un ospizio. Jake Schreier si è diplomato alla NYU Tisch School of Arts nel 2003 dove ha fondato il collettivo di registi chiamato Waverly Films. Nel 2006 si è unito alla Park Pictures, con la quale ha diretto pubblicità, video musicali e adesso questo lungometraggio. Collabora da molto tempo con la band Francis and the Lights su immagini e musica. Con il suo debutto alla regia Robot & Frank ha vinto il Premio Alfred P. Sloan al Sundance Film Festival nel 2012, destinato ai film focalizzati sui temi della scienza e tecnologia.

Set in the near future, Frank, a retired cat burglar, has two grown kids who are concerned he can no longer live alone.
They are tempted to place him in a nursing home until Frank’s son chooses a different option: against the old man’s wishes, he buys Frank a walking, talking humanoid robot programmed to improve his physical and mental health. What follows is an often hilarious and heartwarming story about finding friends and family in the most unexpected places.
Jake Schreier graduated from NYU’s Tisch School
of the Arts in 2003, where he co-founded the filmmaking collective Waverly Films. In 2006 he joined Park Pictures, where he’s directed award-winning commercials, music videos, and now a feature film.
He is a long-time collaborator with the band Francis and the Lights on images and music. Robot & Frank is Jake’s feature directorial debut. The film won the Alfred P. Sloan Prize, given to a feature film that focuses on science or technology as a theme, at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
