Il primo razzo inglese è stato lanciato con successo ma quando ritorna sulla Terra solo uno dei tre astronauti è sopravvissuto. Viene messo sotto stretta osservazione, ma sua moglie, facendolo evadere dall’ospedale, libera la più grande minaccia che la civiltà abbia mai conosciuto: una forza aliena che consuma il superstite, prende energia dalla carne umana per moltiplicarsi e crescere, minacciando di inghiottire e uccidere tutti gli esseri viventi. Il professor Quatermass deve trovare una soluzione prima che sia troppo tardi.

Britain’s first rocket has been successfully launched and returns to Earth. Only one of the three spacemen remains on board. He is put strict observation but his wife smuggles him out of the hospital only to unleash the biggest threat ever known to civilisation. For the survivor is being consumed by an alien force, that gains strength from human flesh to multiply and grow, threatening to engulf and kill all living organisms. Professor Quatermass must find a way to overcome the thing before it becomes impossible.
