Nel 1957 la potente Unione Sovietica decide di dare all’Ungheria, suo fedele alleato, l’opportunità di scegliere il cosmonauta per il primo volo spaziale con equipaggio umano. Il compagno Jenő Karmazsin sa bene quale sia il candidato perfetto: Lajkó Serbán, il primo pilota di etnia Rom dell’Ungheria, e forse del mondo intero. Lajkó è affascinato dalle stelle sin da quando sua madre, che l’ha introdotto all’astrologia Rom, è – ahimè – morta in uno sfortunato incidente causato da uno degli esperimenti coi razzi dello stesso Lajkó. Mentre si prepara per il suo viaggio verso le stelle, Lajkó non sa che è stato scelto per una specifica ragione: i Sovietici hanno già inviato cinque razzi nello spazio, ma nessuno di questi è tornato indietro.

In 1957 the Great Soviet Union decides to give its friendly ally, Hungary, the opportunity to choose the first cosmonaut for the first manned spaceflight. Comrade Jenő Karmazsin knows the best candidate for the job: Lajkó Serbán. The quiet, gypsy man is the first pilot of his ethnicity in Hungary, maybe the whole world. Lajkó has an enormous attraction to stars, that stems from his mother, who introduced him to gypsy astrology and who sadly died in an unfortunate fatal accident caused by one of Lajkó’s rocket experiments. While Lajkó is getting ready for his journey to the stars, he doesn’t know that they chose him for this mission for a reason. The Soviets have already sent five rockets to space, but none of them returned.
