Tom Baker, che sostituì Pertwee nel 1974, rimane il Doctor Who più popolare e longevo della serie, avendo interpretato questo ruolo per ben sei anni. Con l’arrivo di Baker, Robert Holmes divenne l’autore della serie e ne aumentò i contenuti horror. Scritto da Holmes stesso a quattro mani con il suo predecessore Terrance Dicks sotto lo pseudonimo di Robin Bland, quest’episodio vede Dr. Who e Sarah Jane Smith arrivare su un pianeta abitato dallo scienziato pazzo Solon, intento a costruire un corpo formato da un insieme di membra appartenenti a diverse razze aliene con l’intenzione di innestargli infine il cervello di Morbius, il criminale Time Lord.

Tom Baker, who took over the role from Jon Pertwee in 1974, was (or is) arguably the most popular Doctor Who. Having played the role for over six years he was certainly the longest serving. With the arrival of Baker, writer Robert Holmes also became the series’ script editor, and there was a marked increase in the horror content of the stories. Written by Holmes himself together with former script editor Terrance Dicks under the pseudonym Robin Bland, the four-part story sees the Doctor and his companion Sarah Jane Smith arrive on a planet inhabited by the mad scientist Solon, who is constructing a body from a miscellany of various alien race body parts, Frankenstein-style, in order to house the brain of Time Lord criminal, Morbius.
