Lucy Habin has been locked up in a mental asylum for twenty years after she killed her husband and his lover with an axe in front of their daughter Carol. After being released she goes to live with her brother and attempts to reconcile her relationship with her daughter who is now a young woman soon to be married. Everything is fine to begin with, but before long the nightmares and hallucinations return to plague Lucy, and she worries that she’ll be institutionalised once more.
