Australia, 2030.
In the aftermath of a climate-collapsed 2030 Australia, young Bunny roams the ruins of the post-apocalyptic world she never got to grow up in. Raised by her deceased father on old books and B-movies, she now lives alone in the shack they once shared. Supplies are scarce and food is running out. There is nothing left to hunt… Except other people! Inspired by MAD MAXploitation movies, this incredible feature debut by musician/advertising creative James Branson is a deeply engrossing character study brimming with visceral dread and unforgettable imagery and is the genre breakout of the year.
Film come Under the Skin, The Nightingale e Raw – Una cruda verità hanno avuto particolare influenza su Bunny Rabbit.

«In late 2019, a dark orange hue descended on Australia and an apocalyptic fire swallowed the land, destroying 243,000 square kilometres of territory and thousands of homes. The bushfires were a warning of what might be if we continue to ignore the climate crisis. So what would be the consequences of a worldwide climate disaster? How would individuals behave? How might we treat others when resources are horrifically scarce? What–or who–do we eat when there’s nothing left to eat? These were the questions that emerged when I wrote the script for Bunny Rabbit. I’ve also been inspired by what Barbara Creed calls the “Return of the Monstrous Feminine” in 21st century cinema; a loose movement of films that sees women characters break away from traditional notions of victimhood and embracing more active, sometimes villainous, roles. Those films, like Under The Skin, The Nightingale, and Raw were particularly influential on Bunny Rabbit. The original Mad Max and the wave of “Maxploitation” movies that came in that film’s wake were also an inspiration, especially in the wider world of Bunny Rabbit. But for now, I hope you enjoy Bunny Rabbit as much as my team and I enjoyed making it.»
