Considered one of the most influential voices in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">science fiction<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> worldwide, Ted Chiang has received the highest honors, including four Nebula Awards, four Hugo Awards, six Locus Awards, and the PEN\/Malamud Award. His collection <\/span><b><i>\u201cExhalation\u201d <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(Knopf, 2019) was named one of the ten best books of the year by The New York Times and made it onto Barack Obama\u2019s reading list. At <\/span><b>5:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the <\/span><b>Politeama Rossetti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the writer will introduce the <\/span><b>screening of the film<\/b><b><i> \u201cArrival\u201d<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">along with journalist Emilio Cozzi. <\/span>\n\n<b>At 3:00 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at the <\/span><b> Rossetti <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">with the <\/span><b>Italian premiere <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">out of competition of <\/span><b><i>\u201cXeno\u201d <\/i><\/b><b> by Matthew Loren Oates (United States, 2025),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> an exciting adventure that tells the story of the friendship between teenager Renee and a terrifying alien creature, demonstrating how the strongest bonds can form in the most unexpected places. Also at <\/span><b>3:00 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">everyone to the <\/span><b>Miela Theater <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for<\/span><b><i> \u201cArtificial Universe,\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> the out-of-competition section dedicated to short films created using Artificial Intelligence; and staying at the <\/span><b>Miela <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at <\/span><b>4:30 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">short films will also take center stage in <\/span><b><i>\u201c Fantastic Animated Shorts,\u201d <\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a non-competitive program that will bring the best animated fantasy short films to the big screen in Trieste.<\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fantasy film classics will also be the focus of the festival\u2019s final day: at <\/span><b>10:30 a.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Trieste festival\u2019s tribute to <\/span><b>Jind\u0159ich Pol\u00e1k, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the acclaimed science fiction director, on the occasion of the centennial of his birth, begins with the documentary <\/span><b><i>\u201cVisitor Jind\u0159ich Pol\u00e1k\u201d <\/i><\/b><b>by Jakub Skalick\u00fd, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">an intense portrait of the Czech filmmaker and producer who created never-before-seen universes, becoming a cultural phenomenon on both sides of the Iron Curtain\u2014in the East as well as the West\u2014by imagining worlds that transcended both communism and capitalism. This will be followed by a screening of <\/span><b><i>\u201cIkarie XB1,\u201d <\/i><\/b><b>Jind\u0159ich Pol\u00e1k\u2019s film<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> winner of the first edition of the Trieste Science Fiction Film Festival in 1963, which launched his film career\u2014a colonization journey to the far reaches of the universe, in which astronauts face the mysteries of outer space and unexpected consequences.<\/span>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among today\u2019s events for adults and children, we highlight: at <\/span><b>10:00 a.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, at the <\/span><b>Sci-Fi Dome in Piazza della Borsa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, a discussion dedicated to the cultural legacy of <\/span><b>Philip K. Dick<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,<\/span><b> an American science fiction writer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> whose work, more than forty years after his death, has profoundly influenced literature, film, TV series, and video games. Six scholars\u2014Carlo Pagetti, German A. Duarte, Nicoletta Vallorani, Andrea Chimento, Oriana Palusci, and Giulia Martino\u2014will discuss the role and impact of his visions on contemporary culture, marking the 50th anniversary of the special issue of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Science Fiction Studies<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> dedicated to him. At <\/span><b>Viale XX Settembre from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, on the final day of the  <\/span><b>\u201c Intergalactic Market\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014the festival\u2019s exhibition space dedicated to local artisans offering creative and evocative science fiction-themed ideas. Also from<\/span><b> 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at<\/span><b> the Xenia Hall, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the<\/span><b> Illustrabook Altrimondi, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a live art event dedicated to science fiction and fantasy literature: in collaboration with the Accademia del Fumetto, 31 comic book artists and illustrators will bring to life\u2014before the audience\u2019s eyes, using pencils, ink, and colors\u2014selected pages from their favorite novels and short stories in the science fiction, fantasy, and speculative fiction genres. For children enrolled in the <\/span><b>Education Program<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> scheduled from <\/span><b>2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at<\/span><b> Little Beetle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a fun <\/span><b>workshop with modeling clay<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to create aliens, monsters, and extraterrestrial creatures: each participant will be able to create (and take home) a space creature. Finally, at<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">4:00 p.m.<\/span><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the Sci-fi Dome, there will be a talk titled  <\/span><b><i>\u201c Superheroes, Culture, Identity: The Universe of Sara Pichelli\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in which the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">poster artist <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for TS+FF 2025 will discuss her creative universe and the human and social value of comics in the contemporary world. <\/span>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Remaining at the <\/span><b>Sci-Fi Dome <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in Piazza della Borsa at <\/span><b> 6:00 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><b>Mondofuturo Literary Award ceremony <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u2014an award for the best science fiction book (original and untranslated) published in Italy in 2024\u2014will take place.  The three finalists for the second edition of the award are: \u201c<\/span><b><i>Anticaja Canaglia\u201d<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by Cobol Pongide and Emiglino Cicala (Edizioni Progetto Cutlura), \u201c<\/span><b><i>Cronache dalla deriva\u201d<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by Carlo Roselli (Zona 42), and \u201c<\/span><b><i>Nero. Il complotto dei complotti\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> by Luca Giommoni (effequ).
