At <\/span><b>3:30 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the <\/span><b>Teatro Miela <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the short films make their debut with the <\/span><b>Fantastic Shorts<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">program, the traditional showcase of short films from around the world. At <\/span><b>5:00 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at the <\/span><b>Rossetti <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the <\/span><b>Italian premiere <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of <\/span><b><i>\u201c Transcending Dimensions\u201d<\/i><\/b><b> by Toshiaki Toyoda (Japan, 2025),<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">a film that blends mystical fantasy with surreal science fiction, weaving together spirituality, love, and cosmic sorcery. Also at the Rossetti at <\/span><b> 8:00 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the international premiere <\/span><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in the presence of the director of <\/span><b><i>\u201c Affection\u201d <\/i><\/b><b>by BT Meza (United States, 2025), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">starring Jessica Rothe, star of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cHappy Death Day,\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> who stars here in a dark and intriguing science fiction tale in which a woman is grappling with a disease that erases her memory in unpredictable ways. <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At <\/span><b>10:15 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> it will be time for <\/span><b><i>\u201cCognAItive\u201d <\/i><\/b><b>by Tommy Savas (United States, 2025) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in<\/span><b> its Italian premiere <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at<\/span><b> the Rossetti<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: a sharp sci-fi thriller exploring the growing concern that artificial intelligence will replace humans. Closing out the day on Wednesday, October 29 <\/span><b><i>\u201cThe Rows\u201d <\/i><\/b><b>by Seth Daly (United States, 2025), <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">screened out of competition at the <\/span><b>Teatro Miela<\/b> <b>at 10:30 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">where it will be screened in<\/span><b> its Italian premiere<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in the presence of the director: the film stars young Lucy, who wakes up one night in a cornfield being hunted by three masked killers, sparking a struggle for survival in a nightmare of suspense and surreal horror, aided by a dog and a mysterious golden man. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The talks by <\/span><b>Mondofuturo are returning in 2025 as well\u2014<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the series of<\/span><b> free-admission conferences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> organized as part of the Trieste event to engage in dialogue with science popularizers, scientists, and science communicators about the world of tomorrow: a journey through science and imagination, health, identity, the environment, and artificial intelligence to understand who we are and where we\u2019re headed. It begins <\/span><b>on Wednesday, October 29<\/b><b> in Piazza della Borsa <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at the SciFi Dome at<\/span><b> 5:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with <\/span><b><i>\u201cThe Green Tangle \u2013 Living in Forests from the Mesozoic Era to Science Fiction<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d during which Danilo Zagaria will guide us from the depths of the earth to flying rivers, from prehistory to the future, and help us discover why we destroy millions of hectares of forest every year\u2014from mangroves along ocean coasts to the Siberian taiga. Following that<\/span><b> at 6:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, join us for the discussion <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><b><i>Bad Prevention \u2013 How to Defend Yourself Against the Illusion of Living Forever\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, in which<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Roberta Villa denounces those who exploit people\u2019s legitimate fear of getting sick and their natural desire to stay healthy, warning us against the illusion of being able to stop time and the risks of turning health into a commodity\u2014a privilege for the few. Also on Wednesday, October 29<\/span><b> at 7:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, it will be time for <\/span><b><i>\u201cVertigo. From the First Test-Tube Baby to New Drugs for Obesity: The Future of Health Without Shortcuts\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: science communicator and essayist Beatrice Mautino weaves together real stories\u2014from the first \u201ctest-tube baby\u201d to the first life-saving gene therapies and on to new obesity drugs\u2014to explain why the temptation to take shortcuts is not a healthy choice. Also on Wednesday, October 29, there will be an event at <\/span><b>Miela at 8:30 p.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">featuring the documentary <\/span><b><i>\u201c<\/i><\/b><b><i>John Lilly and the Earth Coincidence Control Office\u201d<\/i><\/b> <b>by Michael Almereyda <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">(in attendance in Trieste)<\/span><b> and Courtney Stephens,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> who have co-directed a film-essay on the story of neurophysiologist and \u201cpsychonaut\u201d John C. Lilly and his experiments with dolphins and psychedelic substances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Among the new features of this edition is the section <\/span><b>Thing To Come,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> a series of events designed to <\/span><b>explore the connections between transhumanism, science fiction, politics, and society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A program offering a critical analysis that weaves together literary works, films, essays, and reflections. Through dialogue with scholars and journalists, we will reflect on the construction of imaginaries through the lenses of futurology and sociology, on the rhetorical deceptions of technological promises, on the limitations of dominant science fiction narratives, and on the possibility of imagining imperfect yet desirable futures, such as anti-dystopias<\/span><b>. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It begins <\/span><b>on Wednesday, October 29<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at<\/span><b> 11:00 a.m. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">once again at the Sci-fi Dome with <\/span><b><i>\u201c The Origins of Transhumanism<\/i><\/b><b>: <\/b><b><i>A Man\u2019s World by Charlotte Haldane<\/i><\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to explore the connection between science fiction and transhumanism, starting with a 1926 novel that has never been published in Italy. At <\/span><b>12:00 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">this will be followed by \u201c<\/span><b><i>Digital Simulacra. Is Reality Being Replaced by the Digital World?<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d in which journalist Andrea Daniele Signorelli, creator of the podcast \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Crash \u2013 The Key to the Digital Age\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, will discuss the fine line between misleading narratives and real technological developments. At <\/span><b>4:00 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the featured speaker for the day\u2019s final talk will be Valeria Montebello, a journalist, writer, and creator of the podcasts \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s Just Sex\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Other People\u2019s Sex\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. In \u201c<\/span><b><i>Eros. Between the Body, Code, and Sex Tech: New Desires and Intimacy<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">,\u201d she will explore the metamorphoses of sexuality at the intersection of the physical and technology in the world of AI and virtual reality. Also on Wednesday, October 29, at <\/span><b>5:45 p.m.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> at the <\/span><b>Teatro Miela<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the program features \u201c<\/span><b><i>Things to Come\u201d<\/i><\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400\">by William Cameron Menzies, a milestone in science fiction cinema released in 1936 and born from the brilliant mind of the visionary author H. G. Wells.
