{"id":36928,"date":"2016-10-05T08:47:51","date_gmt":"2016-10-05T06:47:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sciencefictionfestival.org\/dj-yoda-goes-to-the-tsff\/"},"modified":"2021-09-23T11:26:11","modified_gmt":"2021-09-23T09:26:11","slug":"dj-yoda-goes-to-the-tsff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sciencefictionfestival.org\/en\/dj-yoda-goes-to-the-tsff\/","title":{"rendered":"DJ Yoda goes to the TS+FF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DJ Yoda Goes to the Sci-Fi Movies<\/strong> sees the <strong>BFI<\/strong> team up with one of the world\u2019s finest manipulators of music and moving image to embark on a cut, paste, scratch and mix odyssey into science fiction that <strong>Trieste Science+Fiction Festival<\/strong> brings for the first time in Italy on 5th of November at Teatro Miela.<br \/>\nDJ Yoda pioneered a new art form when he used his virtuoso turntable skills to sample film and TV to create intricate and highly-entertaining audiovisual collages.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>As part of the BFI \u201cDays of Fear and Wonder\u201d, DJ Yoda performed the new AV show for the first time on Nov 15th 2014. From Robocop to Back to the Future, from Star Wars to E.T., from TRON to Alien (and some good 80s quality Arnie!), embark with Yoda on the most entertaining visual and sonic trip in the world of Sci-fi movies!<\/p>\n<p>DJ Yoda pioneered a new form of audio-visual entertainment, unifying hands-in-the-air clubbing with a night at the movies, chopping and splicing classic movies with the same exceptional style that he repurposes music samples. One of the first DJs to master the art of re-scoring classic films, in 2014 he was commissioned to create DJ Yoda Goes to the Sci-Fi Movies as part of the BFI\u2019s Sonic Cinema event. BBC Radio 6 Music gave him the platform to make history with the world\u2019s first audio-visual radio mix, and, as part of their BBC Music Day, Radio 4 invited Yoda to mash-up the entire station, remixing The Archers, The Shipping Forecast, John Humphries and more in one of his most sublime and surreal adventures yet.<\/p>\n<p>His recent Breakfast of Champions band, plus accompanying eponymous album, is respectively his most cohesive outfit and most coherent musical statement to date. Curated and produced by DJ Yoda, the album is a super-diverse homage to the sampladelic golden age of hip-hop, featuring an 11-strong collective of upcoming UK MCs and musicians. The band sold out its first two live shows, at Band on the Wall and the Jazz Caf\u00e9, without any promotion, and went on to tour the UK throughout 2015, selling out London\u2019s The Forum and playing to huge festival crowds.<\/p>\n<p>With new studio projects, experimental audio-visual ventures, and his ever-evolving DJ sets taking in a diverse array of styles, genres, decades and continents, things couldn\u2019t be going better for DJ Yoda, and he\u2019s even got used to that name. \u201cI never liked the name DJ Yoda\u201d, he admits. \u201cBut here we are now in 2015 and it\u2019s taken on a new significance\u201d. He surveys the DJ scene and considers himself the Last Man Standing. \u201cBecause Yoda was the last old master of the craft of being a Jedi where no one else around him is using those original skills\u201d, he furthers. \u201cSuddenly that name has an extra relevance.
