{"id":25919,"date":"2021-04-29T14:53:26","date_gmt":"2021-04-29T12:53:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sciencefictionfestival.org\/program-2017-day-1\/"},"modified":"2021-04-29T15:12:02","modified_gmt":"2021-04-29T13:12:02","slug":"program-2017-day-1","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.sciencefictionfestival.org\/en\/past-editions\/tsff-2017\/program-2017-day-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Program 2017 &#8211; Day 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Guess who\u2019s back?<\/strong> Deadly viruses, mutants and space stations are in town again for the <strong>Trieste Science+Fiction Festival<\/strong>. <\/span>The opening ceremony of the 17th edition of the Trieste Science+Fiction Festival will be held at the <strong>Politeama Rossetti<\/strong> for the first time in history.<br \/>\nThe opening film? <strong>Marjorie Prime<\/strong>, by Michael Almereyda.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the acclaimed play by Pulitzer nominee Jordan Harrison, Marjorie Prime explores themes such as memory, identity, love and loss in the age of artificial intelligence. Interpreted by a cast of the highest level &#8211; <strong>Lois Smith<\/strong>, <strong>Jon Hamm<\/strong>, <strong>Geena Davis<\/strong> and <strong>Tim Robbins<\/strong> -, <strong>Marjorie Prime<\/strong> made its debut in January at the <strong>Sundance Film Festival<\/strong>, where it won the Sloan Feature Film Prize, a prize given to the best films dealing with topics such as science and technology.<\/p>\n<p>The program, however, starts even before the opening ceremony, with a revival of the 1978 film by <strong>John Carpenter<\/strong> \u2013 <strong>Halloween<\/strong>, at 5pm at Politeama Rossetti.<\/p>\n<p>On the Halloween night of 1963, in Haddonfield, Illinois, a young woman gets stabbed to death by a little boy dressed as a clown. Fifteen years later, a criminal and sociopath named <strong>Michael Myers<\/strong> escapes from Smith\u2019s Grove Sanitarium. Dr. Sam Loomis suspects Myers will return to Haddonfield to kill again.<br \/>\nA nightmarish cinematographic experience with a (literally) immortal incarnation of pure evil and the original \u201cscream queen\u201d <strong>Jamie Lee Curtis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The program for the day ends with the screening of <strong>It Stains the Sands Red<\/strong>, at 10.15pm at Politeama Rossetti.<br \/>\nIn the throes of a zombie apocalypse, Molly finds herself stranded in the desert with a lone ravenous zombie on her tail. Things quickly become a nightmare when she realizes <strong>the zombie doesn\u2019t ever need to stop and rest<\/strong>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Guess who\u2019s back?
