Shaw trova subito la diffidenza dei paesani che non appaiono mai collaborativi, a parte la maestra Victoria Brown, trasferitasi a Balfe da ormai due anni. Allarmato da alcuni inquietanti eventi che si verificano durante la sua indagine, Shaw scopre inoltre che alcuni abitanti del paese sono affetti da acromegalia, un male causato da un ormone che colpisce la ghiandola pituitaria e trasforma fisicamente chi ne \u00e8 affetto, portandolo alla pazzia.<\/p>\n

Doctor Del Shaw is sent to the British island of Balfe by the Central Anti-Pollution Institute (better known as Doomwatch) to check the level of water pollution. Shaw immediately finds the suspicion of the villagers who never pair off together, apart from the teacher Victoria Brown, who moved to Balfe only two years before. Alarmed by some disturbing events that are proved during his investigation, Shaw discovers that some inhabitants of the town are affected by acromegalia, an illness caused by a hormone that physically changes the pituitary gland so that is doesn’t function, driving them to madness.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/3″][vc_column_text el_id=””]<\/p>\n
