Una banda di donne, rese brutali dalla condizione di sopravvissute in un mondo devastato, vagano, spietate e insensibili, frugando tra i rifiuti, uccidendo animali per mangiare e infine assassinando a sangue freddo l\u2019anziano proprietario di un hotel abbandonato per poter rubare il suo grammofono. Le donne si comportano come farebbe una gang di Wild Angels, se non fosse per il ritmo sostenuto, la musica elettronica modernista di Jan Klusak e la fotografia, che nell\u2019insieme danno al film uno status di \u201cart movie\u201d. Seidlerova, seconda in comando, e Ponicanoca, la leader pi\u00f9 anziana del gruppo, realizzano una perfomance strepitosa, mentre le altre si fondono in una identit\u00e0 animalesca di branco. Schmidt e Juracek hanno collaborato in precedenza a un art house movie, Josef Lilian (1963), pregno in egual misura di ansia esistenziale, vera e propria antitesi delle pazze commedie di Vorlicek and Makourek.<\/p>\n

Set fifteen years after the atomic holocaust, the atmosphere and plot of this film are close to that of Carpenter\u2019s Escape from New York (1981) or to one of Corman\u2019s exploitation films. A gang of women, brutalized by having to survive in a devastated world, go around ruthlessly and callously scavenging, primitively killing animals for food and eventually coolly murdering the aged owner of a deserted hotel in order to steal his gramophone. The women behave like a gang of Hell’s Angels might, except that the deliberate pace, the modernist electronic music by Jan Klusak and the photography all combine to signal \u2018art movie\u2019 status. Seidlerova, as the second in command, and Ponicanova as the elderly leader of the gang, turn in impressive performances, while the others merge into an animalistic gang identity. Schmidt and Juracek had collaborated before on an art house movie, Josef Kilian (1963) which was equally full of existential anxiety, the very antithesis of Vorlicek and Makourek\u2019s crazy comedies.
