The Trieste Science+Fiction Festival presents the third edition of INFINITE FUTURES, a literary contest open to middle and high school students in the city of Trieste.
Together with the FantaTrieste writers’ collective, we are once again inviting students to play with words and imagine Infinite Futures.
This year’s theme will be “A.I. Possible Futures”: a starting point for developing an original science fiction story in every possible sense of the genre.
In addition, for middle and high school classes, it will be possible to schedule a Creative Writing Workshop designed to guide students in crafting their own stories. (see information at the bottom of the page)
We can’t wait to discover new dystopias, alternate histories, cyberpunk or steampunk visions, and interstellar journeys—and we’re ready to go wherever your young, creative minds can take us.
For information and registration, please consult the rules or email us at books@sciencefictionfestival.org.

Creative Writing Workshop to Explore the Future
(for middle and high schools)
The workshop consists of 5 sessions, each lasting 2 hours (for a total of 10 hours), and aims to introduce middle and high school students to the literary genre of science fiction. Through hands-on and interactive activities, participants will learn to build fantastical worlds, create characters, and structure a story. Each session will not be a simple lecture but an opportunity to challenge themselves, imagine maps of alien planets, develop characters and a plot, and then write the opening lines of their own story.
The workshop aims to stimulate creativity, improve narrative skills, and, above all, show that writing can be a fun and powerful way to explore the world around us. It is designed to be an enjoyable and educational experience, where young people can freely express their creativity and discover the joy of storytelling.
