Hitoshi Matsumoto è nato ad Amagasaki in Giappone ha debuttato come attore nel 1983 nel programma TV “Downtown”. Nel 1998 ha pubblicato “Visualbum”, una collezione di storie che rivelano un altro lato del suo dono comico. Dainipponjin, di cui è anche interprete, è stato il suo primo film da regista.
