A 50-foot-tall alien spider escapes from a military lab and rampages the city of Los Angeles. When a massive military strike fails, it is up to a team of scientists, soldiers, and one clever exterminator to kill the creature before the city is destroyed. Our hero, Alex, is a blue collar Western Exterminator on his day off. Alex’s side-kick, Jose, is a Mexican Security Guard who joins him along the way. They make together a bit of a Don Quixote / Sancho Panza duo which might actually work to a song because, as Don Quixote, Alex is a bit of a self-proclaimed Knight-in- shining-armor. Of course, once he kills the spider, he finally lives up to his own expectations.

Mike Mendez was born in Los Angeles in 1973. In 1996 he made his first feature film Killers, that premiered at Sundance Film Festival. In 2002, he produced a documentary for Universal Television and Showtime entitled Masters of Horror. He also directed the campy horror comedy The Convent (2000), which was also accepted into Sundance, and The Gravedancers (2006), that premiered at Tribeca Film Festival . Big Ass Spider! is his 5th feature film.
